Eventsec Senior Cup Final
Jan 31, 2024Coleraine have won this seasons Eventsec Senior Cup for the first time since 2012. Coleraine defeated Ballinamallard United 3 - 2, with both young teams treating the good-sized crowd to some really entertaining football.
Coleraine opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Sam McClintock took full advantage of a misplaced pass to slot home. Jamie McGonigle wasted an opportunity to double the advantage three minutes later, but his penalty was well saved by Patrick McGarvey in the Ballinamallard goal. Ballinamallard took advantage of that let off when they levelled on 22 minutes through Richard Johnston. Ballinamallard continued to press and took the lead ten minutes later when Josh McIllwaine fired them into a half time lead with a neat turn and finish.
Corey Smith went close to an equaliser for Coleraine early in the second half but his shot rebounded off the crossbar. Coleraine did get back on level terms on 62 minutes when McClintock scored a sublime free kick. With both sides continuing to play attacking football it was Coleraine super Sub Tiernan Brolley who slotted home the winner on 83 minutes, less than 60 seconds from entering the field of play.
The MOM trophy was presented to Sam McClintock by North West FA Senior Committee Chairman Bill Anderson. The medals were presented by IFA President Conrad Kirkwood. John McIlreavy representing Eventsec presented the Cup to Coleraine captain Senan Devine.
